About the Role 
This particular clinic Located in Canberra offers comprehensive sexual health and HIV care, along with the Adult Gender Service (AGS) for individuals aged 16 and over. Together with the Paediatric Gender Service (PGS), they form the facilities Gender Service, providing interdisciplinary support to those with gender concerns or dysphoria in the ACT and surrounding regions. Their mission is to enhance the physical and mental health outcomes of transgender diverse individuals through trauma-informed and strengths-based care.

The Clinical Psychologist position involves delivering high-level clinical services within the AGS and the sexual health clinic, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to assess and manage the mental wellbeing of adolescents and adults seeking gender care. Responsibilities include supporting patient intake, conducting neurocognitive assessments, providing counselling, and liaising with peer support agencies and government bodies. The role will report to the Unit Director of the sexual health clinic, with support from the Director of Allied Health in the Division of Medicine.

Duties – level 3 
Under limited direction of the Unit Director, you will:

  1. Provide a high level of appropriate skilled clinical assessments and interventions to individuals referred to the Adult Gender Service and other patients in the sexual health clinic including liaising with support networks and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, professional practice and ethical standards.
  2. Provide professional primary supervision and/or training to other staff and students as directed. Participate in supervision, continuing professional development and performance management.
  3. Exercise independent professional judgement in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
  4. Active contribution to the planning, development and evaluation of client programs and services including data collection and analysis.
  5. Active contribution to the development, evaluation and analysis of policies and procedures applicable to professional practice.
  6. Consult and liaise with external community agencies/groups to develop partnerships for health promotion and other service delivery activities identified in the business plan.
  7. Under professional supervision, participate in and/or implement and coordinate research programs in relevant areas of service delivery, and initiate and coordinate quality improvement activities in areas of speciality.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Duties – Level 4 

Duties Under limited direction of the Unit Director, you will:

  1. Provide an expert level of clinical and psychological assessments, clinical formulation, diagnosis and interventions to individuals and their support network referred to the Adult Gender Service.  This includes liaising with other service providers to facilitate effective service provision, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, professional practice and ethical standards.
  2. Demonstrate leadership and ability to exercise independent professional judgment and employ innovative problem-solving skills to manage complex cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
  3. Liaise with the patient, carers, multi-disciplinary team members and key internal and external stakeholders: to enhance and establish effective and collaborative partnerships to ensure positive client outcomes.
  4. Provide leadership in the ongoing development of the Adult Gender Service, including quality improvement, policy development, evaluation and review and contribute to research to support evidence-based practice.
  5. Actively participate in supervision, provide clinical supervision and specialist training to staff and students as required, promote professional development, and participate in performance management for self and others.
  6. Responsibility to ensure staff compliance with local and territory plans, legislation, and the facilities policy, effective access and discharge procedures, incident and complaints management, and operation and strategic planning.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification.
  • Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia under AHPRA.
  • Psychology Board of Australia Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with adolescents including adolescent development, mental health assessment and capacity assessment.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience for level 3 position and 5 years post-qualification experience for level 4 position.
  • Our client is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with people with gender concerns and/or gender dysphoria and/or LBGTIQ+ community.
  • Post-graduate qualification in health, behavioural science, or management.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering with Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
