About the Role

This is an exciting time for our client as they expand their maternity services to include a dedicated Maternity Assessment Unit located adjacent to the Birthing Unit and a dedicated Early Pregnancy Unit within the Antenatal & Gynaecology Unit. Their expansion in service delivery has created exciting opportunities in all areas for experienced midwives to join the team of their choosing.

As a level 6 tertiary centre providing specialised maternity care to approximately 3800 women per year. You will work in a dynamic health care service with a strong culture of finding innovative modern solutions to the demands and challenges facing contemporary midwifery.
  
We are looking for Registered Midwife’s to work across their full scope of practice in the following areas:
·         Antenatal
·         Postnatal
·         Birthing
·         Continuity (CBR Midwives Program)
·         Maternity and Gynaecology Outpatients

Reporting to the Clinical Midwifery Manager, the level 2 Registered Midwife is responsible for providing midwifery leadership within the unit. This includes supporting staff to achieve excellence in clinical, quality and safe practice, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and with consumers of maternity services. 

Duties Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwifery Manager, you will perform the duties of the Registered Midwife position. You will:

  1. Co-ordinate and provide midwifery care in accordance with Canberra Health Services Policies and Procedures, National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and the relevant legislation.
  2. Practice in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs, and rights of individuals and/or groups.
  3. Promote midwives within the multidisciplinary team as valuable experts contributing to positive outcomes for women and their families.
  4. Understand and practice within own scope of clinical practice.
  5. Promote an environment that encourages both individual and team development.
  6. Maintain competence, including mandatory education and assessment; participate in the development of policy, procedures, quality activities and clinical meetings.
  7. Participate and encourage an environment of active lifelong learning.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory

  • Relevant tertiary level midwifery qualifications and minimum 1-year clinical experience. – 3 years for sponsorship candidates
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful applicant will need to be available for rotational shift work including weekends and night duty.
  • Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the Exceptional Care Framework, Partnering with Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
