About the Role 
The facilities Gender Service provides interdisciplinary support for children, young people, adults, and their families experiencing gender concerns or gender dysphoria in the ACT and surrounding regions. Its mission is to enhance the physical and mental health and quality of life outcomes for transgender diverse (TGD) individuals of all ages. The service emphasizes creating an environment where individuals feel safe, supported, and listened to throughout their gender identity journey.

Our clients Adult Gender Services (AGS) is delivered by highly trained health workers who utilize a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that embraces family and peer support while reducing stigma and discrimination. The AGS is part of the ties Sexual Health Centre (CSHC), where the new Allied Health Care Provider will deliver high-level clinical services. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and manage the mental wellbeing of adolescents aged 16 and older, and adults primarily seeking gender care, while also addressing other sexual health conditions that may impact their mental health. The Social Worker will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote improved client outcomes, reporting to the Unit Director of CSHC along with the Director of Allied Health in the Division of Medicine.

Duties Level 3 Health professional
Duties Under limited direction you will perform clinical social work duties at CHS Adult Gender Service. You will:

  1. Provide a high level of appropriate skilled clinical assessment and psychosocial interventions across a range of clinical areas, including individual and group work to consumers and carers.
  2. Exercise independent professional judgment in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
  3. Liaise with patients, carers, and service providers, to enhance and improve clinical outcomes and develop partnerships for health promotion and other service activities identified in the business plan.
  4. Actively contribute to the supervision and education of staff and students. Actively participate in supervision, continuing professional development and performance management.
  5. Actively contribute to the implementation of clinical governance activity, quality improvement projects, research programs and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
  6. Actively participate in team meetings, complete clinical and administrative data collection and case records to a consistent high standard.
  7. Practice in accordance with the professional body’s code of conduct, practice standards and organisational guidelines and legislative requirements.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Duties Level 4 Health professional

  2. Demonstrate leadership and ability to exercise independent judgment in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures and techniques require expansion, adaptation, or modification.
  3. Liaise with patients, carers, and service providers, to enhance and improve clinical outcomes and develop partnerships for health promotion and other service activities identified in the business plan.
  4. Lead the supervision and education of staff and students, including clinical supervision, continuing professional development and performance management.
  5. Lead the implementation of clinical governance activity, quality improvement projects, research programs and health promotion in areas relevant to service.
  6. Actively participate in team meetings, complete clinical and administrative data collection and case records to a consistent high standard.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and a minimum of 3 years for level 3 and 5 years for level 4 of experience working professionally in Social Work.
  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership or eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend and after-hours work on a roster and will be required to work shutdown.
  • Our client is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with people with gender concerns and/or gender dysphoria and/or LBGTIQ+ community.
  • Drivers licence.
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering with Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
